Now that heading reads just a tad portentous although it’s more attention grabbing and has got you this far, or maybe it’s just the fact nothing has been writ, a hiatus so to speak of words and images, since November 2015, a lifetime of leaf raking one could argue........ sigh :-) Thursday 18th So let me start with a catchup on the gardens. After re gravelling the paths in the Labyrinth, the Willow Dome then got a going over with new gravel and a refreshed mandala. More gravelling around the pottery and car park areas and Heather working at enlivening various gardens in between scalping the lawns to a uniform slick of green ready to slide your eye on to the next attraction, assuming i am up to date with leaf raking.. It has been a strange season with many trees flowering 2 or 3 times, currently the silk tree, an apple, the olives and a rhodie a doing another flowering, fungi season has started way ahead of time and currently passion vine hoppers are at plague levels. Right from the start of the season all the native trees and shrubs have been flowering at a notable level of excess..... Also of note is a change in bird life in that this current breeding season has produced vast numbers of birds compared with previous years. Of special note are the dozens of Tui charging around the place. Just before Christmas we had a burglary, a to order one at that, which saw the theft of some of Heathers pottery works (the to order bit) and the removal of Heathers prized stash of copper cylinders (set aside for sculptural projects) and a very special large copper frog, the one seen on this page here  and that theft was the worst aspect for Heather. From my perspective i have to say that the people concerned must be largely unaware of the energies associated with Mahara and just how they are likely to impact them. Stealing from Heather is stealing from me and in a manner, stealing from the supportive energies experienced here by many visitors. Personal direct experience of similar situations invites me to understand this will backfire for them. Some would call it Karma i await with interest................. Now a bit about the sculptural side of things...... more works have appeared on the Sculpture Walk but no stone sculptures have been created since September last year even though one has been sitting ready for expression since October. It is now about the right time to continue with this piece as i feel it is part of a key work when associated within the context of the other pieces created for Mahara....... an energy thing one might say. People do ask why the sculptures are not for sale, almost as if the key aspect of existence was supposed to revolve around money and the materialistic.............. If i was keen on money i would have become a banker and rip everyone off like is happening to all of us right now, but fortunately i am not that way inclined, happy in my own skin you might say. All sculptures are created for nothing more or less than the experiencing of creation creating itself, each of the key pieces at Mahara are, by intent, sculpted to enhance the experience of existence usually associated with this location, it may or may not be obvious.  Yet until one perceives something it doesn’t really exist......... and it can be argued there is no “existence” as such that can be defined as “something”   BUT   there certainly is “the experience of existence” and that is something we all partake in, together,  no matter our views “about” reality etc and so forth. So referencing back to the sculptures....... to all intents and purposes they only exist while you, yes you, are perceiving them and within the timelessness of that moment/s they belong to you. You are perceiving aspects of self, shared selves even, and as for me i am usually amongst the last “see” this.  I feel there are enough beings out there in the world(?) selling to us that which we already are and have, so i don’t feel like playing that game. Mahara is a place of experience, an oasis of tranquillity and peace that we wish to share with those that find their way here.
Treedragon Speaks (rumblings of the less obvious)
Monday 29th
Ahhhhh the joys of a wet Monday and what better excuse for sitting in front of the computer........ The rain of late has been treating us a little too gently methinks, a dose or two of heavier stuff would not go amiss to further ameliorate the semi drought conditions and maybe give the tree ferns some support against the Passionvine Hoppers doing their best to suck the life out of things........ There have been rumours for some time of a possible new walk down amongst the bamboo, it has been started...... as in a stage or two beyond some vague concept tossed around on the winds of time. As usual it is turning into more work than hinted at by passing contemplation, necessitating undue amounts of eyeballing the scene at hand in order to enhance an, (ahem), authentic presence, complete with rocky stream and maybe hints of tigers over there in the sun speckled bamboo gloom across the waters. The image at the top of this page is from down there in the Hidden Bamboo Forest, one of the many eye catching moments that appear often for the briefest of times as the sun, presumably somewhere above is allowed a defining look in to highlight some exquisite detail. There is a soft quietness down there, steady chuckle of dancing waters, the stream banks presenting an unexpected and beautiful juxtaposition of native NZ flora intermingled with monumental trunks soaring above the billowy green froth atop the mysteries of the Hidden Bamboo Forest.......... and no, i am not trying to sell you something, it is lovely down there. A general theme is developing, that of bamboo and stone, hinting, as it does, at the mildly monumental in stone primitives............. i have yet to figure out what that may mean. Not much in the way of images as i haven’t yet figured out how to take presentable photos in the contrasty lighting, although as soon as it stops raining might be the time.............
