March 2017 It seems a period of periodic rains periodically applying themselves to the area have started, probably to do with it being Autumn....... but little in the way of winds I am pleased to say. Colour everywhere or rather the preponderance of shades of green just seem somewhat outshone........... It is certainly the season of colourful right from sun rise, and the morning mists, different lights playing on Maumaupaki as the sun works it’s way north, a sample below.
Pointedly Colourful
Right then so there has been more rain, 500mm over a couple of days then a break of a week then more............ but there was an upside.  As I poked around surveying the cumulative damage in scoured out water courses and the like an object was spotted, underwater and deeply buried in old mud, just and end that did not not look normal, I grabbed it. It turns out to be an old Maori fern root pounder probably from the 1800’s, judging by the know history of this valley.  It is currently being carefully dehydrated ready for preservative. It is not “exciting” yet it is, we are both pleased to be able to save it.
The latest sculpture is ongoing and taking a lot of time, (it’s really quite big), more rain and the following is the Te Kaka Stream , in the Bamboo Forest after the latest fresh. Worthy of note is that when i checked it after the 500mm last month the water was nearly a metre higher and just a ginormous roar of boulders and speed.
Then afterwards
Just to close, a little of the Mahara colour first alluded to.
